Health Wonk Review for September 27, 2018

The long-awaited next edition of Health Wonk Review hit the virtual newsstands this week over at xpostfactiod.com. Host Andrew Sprung dubbed it the “Map of Malfunction” edition and had no trouble luring me in with his promise of “a smorgasbord of smart takes on the morphing ACA marketplace; various dysfunctions (and one or two functions) of U.S. health care; and political wars over Medicare and the ACA.”

Mmmmm. Dysfunction. If it’s as appealing to you as it is to  … well, everyone apparently … this is your edition:

  • Alarm bells going off over CMS plans to open catastrophic plans to more ACA enrollees …
  • The possibility that a suit over the constitutionality of the ACA could deliver “another shock event” to the marketplace …
  • The jaw-dropping story of at Texas high school history teacher socked with an out-of-network bill in excess of $100,000.

There’s all that dysfunction and more (including a great explainer or two and a generous plug for our brand-spankin’-new state-by-state guide to short-term health insurance, authored by the amazing Louise Norris.)

Word to the wise: Brace yourself for a serious malfunction vibe.

Next up: Joe Paduda hosts Health Wonk Review at Managed Care Matters on October 28.
