Fresh Food Delivered To Your Doorstep with Blue 365

Blue Cross NC is excited to announce The Produce Box will be joining the vendor partners participating in the Blue365 program for our NC members.

Nine years ago, we were one of the first companies to bring fresh, locally sourced food to our employees through The Produce Box. Now we’re extending this offer to our members.

Here’s how it works

Through Blue365 enrollment, members will have the opportunity to join The Produce Box for free (a $20 value) and receive $10 off their first order using coupon code BLUE365.

Members can support their active, healthy lifestyle by ordering affordable, farm-fresh produce delivered to their home or office, with quality matching what can be bought at local farmers markets.

Customize your box and fill it with a wide variety of fruits and veggies like tomatoes, spinach or mushrooms, meats and specialty items from the weekly online menu, which has over 100 items from local farmers and artisans.

Add in extra produce and local meat, chicken, cheese, milk, bread, granola or anything you like.

You can receive your local food delivery as often as once per week. Skip your delivery any time you want. There is no commitment when ordering.

The Produce Box is more than an extremely convenient fresh and local food delivery service. In just 12 years, the company has grown to support over 70 farmers and 100 artisan food businesses across the state.

The Produce Box hand-delivers to homes and offices in the Triangle, Triad, Charlotte, Wilmington, Fayetteville, Sanford and Pinehurst.

The Terms:

  • Valid for new members only. Offer not valid for current members of The Produce Box.
  • Members must be enrolled in Blue365 to take advantage of the offer.
  • Blue365 members must enter the code BLUE365.
  • The BLUE365 code will automatically waive the annual membership fee of $20 and add a $10 credit to your account which will be applied to your first order.
  • A credit card must be provided to sign up; you will only be charged when you place an order.
  • Discount cannot be combined with other offers.
  • This offer is only available through The Produce Box and Blue 365.

The Produce Box brings healthy food to your doorstep but is also working to make food accessible to those who need it the most.

By battling food insecurity through programs with area nonprofits and supporting those impacted by Hurricane Florence, The Produce Box is working to support our community. Not to mention the benefits to North Carolina farmers.

Here’s how The Produce Box is growing together with…

North Carolina Farmers:

In the aftermath of Hurricane Florence in 2018, members of The Produce Box donated more than $12,000 to the company’s farmer recovery fund. These funds were used to provide grants to five of our farmers who suffered great loss.

Communities impacted by Hurricane Florence:

In the aftermath of Hurricane Florence, The Produce Box and its members knew it was important to get food to the people who needed it. The Produce Box distributed produce to Wilmington through Operation Airdrop, Nourish NC and World Central Kitchen. And members of The Produce Box donated 150 boxes to homeless shelters in Fayetteville.

In 2017, members donated almost $20,000 to the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in Texas, led by Farmhouse Delivery, a similar program to The Produce Box in Austin. This organization delivered fresh produce as well as prepared meals to volunteers and displaced families in their area.

Area nonprofits to combat food insecurity:

The Produce Box undertakes several efforts to battle food insecurity, including donating to food banks and partnering with the YMCA of the Triangle during Camp High Hopes. Many of the campers live in underserved areas with little access to fresh, healthy, affordable food. The camp provides two hot meals 5 days a week, and campers are able to share fresh fruits and vegetables with their families through weekly donations by The Produce Box.

“Through partnerships like this, we are able to help campers and their families see the value of solid nutrition and fresh foods. This is what we’re all about at the Y – helping the kids and families we serve grow and live healthier lives.” Susan Pettengill, VP of Healthy Living, YMCA of the Triangle said.

Through Community Box purchases:

Each year, The Produce Box donates approximately $30,000 in produce to non-profit organizations. Members have also donated an additional $50,000 per year (funded by “community box” purchases) which allows us to supplement our donations to Second Harvest, The Carying Place, Back Pack Beginnings, The Point Church Food Pantry, Wake Interfaith, Urban Ministries, Feed Friends Kingswood, Capital Church, Nourish NC, and Brown Bag Ministries, Interfaith Food Shuttle, Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC, Millbrook United Methodist Church Pantry, and Second Harvest.

In 2019, The Produce Box also added new food bank donations into the weekly schedule at Bethesda Baptist Church in Durham, Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry in Wake Forest and Community of Hope Ministries in Garner.

Through Hero Box purchases:

Members purchase approximately 500 Hero Boxes each year (valued at $10,000). In 2018 Hero Boxes were distributed to the USO, Veterans of Foreign Wars, furloughed Federal employees (through Interfaith Food Shuttle), and local first responders at police substations and fire departments.
