Special Enrollment Period for Small Businesses

With COVID-19 continuing to spread across the US, employees are relying upon their employers, now more than ever, to provide affordable health insurance to protect them during this time. From November 15th to December 15th, group health insurance carriers are offering relaxed underwriting to allow more small businesses to offer their employees health insurance. The Affordable Care Act requires insurers to offer a one-month Special Enrollment Period and this is the perfect time for many small businesses to apply for group health insurance.

The Special Enrollment Period for small businesses allows any active California business to apply for group health insurance with no minimum employer contribution as well as no minimum employee participation rate. Normally, a business is required to pay at least 50% towards their employee’s health insurance with at least 60%-70% of the eligible employees applying for health insurance. In addition, many of the insurance carriers will not request a DE9C or quarterly payroll which is normally required by underwriters.

During this annual Special Enrollment Period, let us help you find the right plans for both the needs of your employees as well as for your bottom line.
